Here are some trends style experts say we can expect to see on the red carpet at the Oscars.

Gwyneth Paltrow's white Tom Ford hat, Angelina Jolie's exposed leg and Jennifer Lopez's mermaid-like, Zuhair Murad dress all stole the show on the red carpet at last year's Oscars.
This year colours and nail-accessorizing are trending. QMI spoke to Urbana Chappa, designer for the "Maison de Urbana" brand, to find out what else you can expect to see on the red carpet during Sunday's 85th annual Academy Awards.
"Lots of vibrant colours, as well as black and white, and lace," says Chappa at her LA studio.
Chappa has just finished presenting her new collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
She notes the stars wore bright colours at this year's Grammys and expects the trend to continue.
"Katy Perry wore a green dress and Rihanna had that watermelon-coloured dress," Chappa, 33, says. "I think we'll see that kind of colour palette at the Oscars."
Chappa is a regular on the red carpet. Her husband, musician Philip Lawrence, writes and co-produces the songs for Bruno Mars. Moreover, she designed the clothing worn by songwriter Diane Warren at this month's Grammys.
"The Oscars are very different than then Grammys," she says. "Stars take risks with their clothing at the Grammys. The Oscars are more conservative, very glamorous."
Chappa says the new trends this year don't only involve clothing. Rather, stars are accessorizing their nails.
"Nails are the new jewelry," she says. "They are decorated with precious stones or 14-carat gold; it's a trend that was started by Rihanna."
Most of the actresses who are nominated for this year's ceremony planned their dresses months in advance, Chappa says.
Nothing is left to chance when one must confront 85 photographers on the 150 metres of red carpet. Moreover, nobody wants to go through what happened to Reese Witherspoon in 2006, when Chanel mistakenly sent the actress a dress that was worn by Kirsten Dunst in 2003.
"A fashion faux-pas," Chappa says.
The dresses worn at the Oscars are valued between $1,000 and $50,000 and are most-often lent to the actresses.
In some cases, designers give the dress to the actress. A-list actresses get their outfits tailor-made. And the biggest stars don't even have to pay their stylist fees; costs are assumed by the movie studios.
Designer Tom Ford, who is a favourite among many actresses, just finished presenting his 2013 collection in London. We could maybe see one of his pop-art-inspired creations on Hollywood Blvd. on Sunday.
We'll likely see creations by Elie Saab, a Lebanese designer whose career took off in 2002 after Halle Berry wore one of his dresses to accept the award for Best Actress.
We're also likely to see the work of another Lebanese designer, Zuhair Murad, who often dresses Jennifer Lopez.
Also look out for Marchesa, the brand belonging to Georgina Chapman, wife of Hollywood producer
Harvey Weinstein.
One thing is for certain: nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis will be carrying her stuffed animal of a dog, down the red carpet. Wallis was nominated for the best actress category for her role in Beasts of the
Southern Wild. She's been carrying around that stuffed dog since the beginning of the gala season.
